Patterns and Creators is a free app designed for chess players of all skill levels. While playing, users engage with a series of chess positions curated by chess streamers and chess content creators across various languages.

For each position, several patterns are presented. Players swipe left if a pattern applies to the position, and right if it doesn't.

These simple game mechanics, combined with an engaging scoring system and a wide variety of collectible patterns encourage users to return to the app regularly, whether for a quick game or a more serious improvement session.

Through the app, users discover the creators who resonate better with them (by style, age, skill, language, etc.) making them more likely to become passionate players and boosting the growth and vitality of the entire chess community.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What's the business model of the app?

The app is free and ad-free. We chose this model to give both creators and the app wide-ranging, long-term exposure without annoying users.

I Am a Chess Content Creator. How Do I Get On Board?

We contribute to the project by providing app development and pattern visuals, while creators contribute by curating a few chess positions. You get free access to a special version of the Visual Kit for Chess Content Creators. There, you can add the chess positions that you want and select a couple of patterns for each. The whole process should take just a few minutes. At the end, simply email us the string that the Kit creates for you.

I Am Not a Very Strong Chess Player. Is That a Problem?

No, it's not a problem. You don’t need to be a GM, IM, or a Master of any kind. You also don’t need to know all the patterns available in the app. However, we recommend adding only patterns you understand well.

I Have a Small Following / I Just Started. Can I Still Participate?

Absolutely. The primary goal of the app is to help creators like you reach a wider audience. We only ask that any channels linked by the app adhere to family-friendly policies in line with app store guidelines.

I Already Have a Large Following. Why Should I Participate?

If you enjoy the app, gaining extra exposure through something you like can only be a good thing, right? More importantly, we genuinely believe that the chess ecosystem grows broader and stronger when diverse voices connect with diverse audiences. Supporting smaller creators helps them reach new chess players, benefiting everyone in both the short and long term. Please note that we are very respectful of the work behind building a brand reputation and will only use creators' names, images, graphics, etc. inside the app. Any usage outside of it, e.g., implying endorsement or other promotional purposes, will happen only in accordance with what is explicitly authorized in separate agreements.

Is There a Way To Opt-Out If Needed?

If, for any reason, you wish to end your participation in the app, simply notify us of your decision, and we'll remove your profile, images, links, and positions from the app at its next update (we plan several updates per year). Also, please note that you retain all rights to your positions. We will use them exclusively within the app and only for as long as you authorize us to do so.

Where Do the Icons of the Patterns Come From?

To create our soon-to-be-released Chess With Cards game, we designed from scratch a complete set of "chess concepts" icons. We tried our best to keep them consistent with each other, both in terms of visual coherence and in terms of underlying chess meanings. Here are some examples of what we tried to achieve: All passed pawns are represented with a big arrow that "pushes" them towards promotion. All checkmate patterns are surrounded by a frame that recalls the checkmate symbol used in standard chess notation. All sacrifices are represented by a piece being thrown down a pit to be walked over by its companions. Etc.

I Like the App. Is There a Cost? How Do I Get On board?

There’s no cost. We’re currently identifying eligible creators, so if you’re interested, please reach out to us now.
