Chess Patterns ❯ Types of Groupings ❯ Kingside Pawn Majority
Kingside Pawn Majority
Kingside Pawn Majority
You have a Kingside Pawn Majority when you have more pawns on the kingside than your opponent. You can use this numerical advantage to gain various positional benefits. In the diagram above, White has a strong kingside majority ready to advance, while Black's queenside majority is crippled by the backward a7-pawn.
Ideas for when you have a Kingside Pawn Majority: (1) Push your pawns forward to gain space, (2) Exert pressure on your opponent's position, (3) Strive to create a passed pawn. Ideas against a Kingside Pawn Majority: (1) Create counterplay on the queenside or in the center, (2) Keep pieces on the board to complicate the position and prevent a worse endgame.
