Queenside Pawn Majority

You have a Queenside Pawn Majority when you have more pawns on the queenside than your opponent. You can use this numerical advantage to gain various positional benefits. If Kings castle kingside (as shown the diagram above), a queenside majority is usually superior to a kingside majority. This is because any passed pawn that it creates will be safer from the opponent's King.

Ideas for when you have a Queenside Pawn Majority: (1) Push your pawns forward to gain space, (2) Exert pressure on the opponent's position, (3) Strive to create a passed pawn. Ideas against a Queenside Pawn Majority: (1) Create counterplay on the kingside or in the center, (2) Keep pieces on the board to complicate the position and prevent a worse endgame.
