Minor Piece vs. Pawn(s)
A Material Imbalance is present on the board when the opposing pieces are roughly of the same value but of different types. In a Piece vs. Pawns Imbalance, two pawns might be fighting against a Bishop, for instance, or a Knight might be battling three pawns (diagram above). Most of the time, the side with the piece is favored.
Ideas for when you have the Piece against the Pawns: (1) Fight for the initiative, (2) Take advantage of the greater mobility of your piece, (3) Blockade the enemy pawns, (4) Make the pawns a target of your attacks. Ideas for when you have the Pawns against the Piece: (1) Fight for the initiative, (2) Prevent the coordination of your opponent's pieces, (3) Get your pawns moving forward in a coordinated way.
