Rook Swing

Rook Swing

A Rook Swing is a maneuver in which a Rook moves horizontally across the board to a more advantageous position on the opposite side. This can open new lines of attack, support other pieces, or exploit weaknesses in the opponent's position. A Rook swing is particularly useful for increasing the Rook's activity and flexibility in a dynamic position.

In the diagram above, White previously lifted the Rook to e4 in preparation of an attack on the kingside. White now continues with the powerful swing: 1.Rh4, which strongly increases the pressure against Black's King.
