Battery
Battery
A Battery is a formation where two or more long-range pieces are aligned, and work together to create a powerful threat. In the diagram above, White can play 1.Rd1 and create a powerful battery on the d-file aimed at the d7-pawn.
Ideas for when you have a Battery: (1) Coordinate the battery with other pieces and increase the pressure on the target, (2) Pay attention to defensive maneuvers. Ideas against a Battery: (1) Capture/ exchange one of the battery pieces, (2) Cut off the line between the two battery pieces, (3) Move any threatened pieces to safer squares.
