Discovered Check
Discovered Check
A Discovered Check is a tactic in which moving one piece reveals a check by another piece behind it. In the diagram above, White can play 1.Ne5+ opening the f-file for the Rook. Black is forced to deal with the check, and White can gain material by capturing the black Queen on the next move.
When delivering a Discovered Check: (1) Ensure the piece you move creates an additional threat, (2) Consider the timing and the sequence of moves to maximize the effectiveness of your attack. Against a Discovered Check: (1) Move the King out of the line of the coming check, (2) Strengthen the protection of any vulnerable pieces affected by the attack.
