Double Check
Double Check
A Double Check is a tactic in which the opponent's King is put in check by two pieces simultaneously. The King cannot capture or block either piece: it needs to move to an escape square. In the diagram above, White can play 1.Ng6+ giving check with both the Knight and the Rook. Black has to move the King, and White will deliver checkmate on h8 in the next move.
When delivering a Double Check: (1) Consider the timing and the sequence of moves to maximize the effectiveness of your attack, (2) Ensure the piece you move creates an additional threat. Against a Double Check: (1) Move the King out of the line of the coming check.
