Drawable Pawn Endgame

Drawable Pawn Endgame

You have a Drawable Pawn Endgame when, despite being at a disadvantage in a position where only Kings and pawns remain, you can hold the game to a draw through accurate defensive play.

In the diagram above, White is a pawn down, but decides to simplify the position with 1.Qc2+ because of the spatial relationship between the two Kings and the passed pawn. After the trade of Queens 1...Qxc2 2.Kxc2, the resulting position is a well-known drawn endgame, where the white King manages to prevent the promotion of Black's passed pawn by using the opposition technique. The game continued: 2. ... Kb4 3.Kb2 c4 3.Kc2 c3 4.Kc1 Kb3 5.Kb1 c2+ 6.Kc1 Kc3 Stalemate.
